Moran Named Communications Director for The Community Foundation of Macon County

Rachel Moran of Mt. Zion, Ill., has joined The Community Foundation of Macon County (CFMC) in the new role of director of communications, effective June 1. In this role, Moran will be responsible for facilitating collaborative partnerships among Macon County nonprofits. She also will lead CFMC’s marketing and other outreach efforts to promote fundraising and to create greater awareness of the Foundation’s resources and assistance in serving donors and nonprofits.

“Rachel has a deep understanding of the unique needs of nonprofit organizations,” says Natalie Beck, CFMC president. “She brings to this position a depth of professional experience and expertise in communications and marketing that will increase the Foundation’s ability to connect and serve our donors and Macon County nonprofits.”

Previously, Moran was a member of the leadership team at Macon Resources, Inc. (MRI), where she served as director of philanthropy since 2018. In that role, she led MRI's public relations, marketing and fundraising efforts, including the major gifts program, annual fund, planned giving, special events and capital campaigns. Among her accomplishments at MRI: nearly tripling the donations made during annual fundraising campaigns and increasing grant awards received by 75 percent. Prior to MRI, she was communications and event specialist for the University of Chicago Medicine Kovler Diabetes Center. At the Center, she created and executed a new communications and marketing plan while also leading outreach and fundraising events for the organization. For one major fundraising event, Moran developed and led a marketing and social media campaign that drew more than 600 guests and raised over $600,000.

Moran earned her associate’s degree at Richland Community College and completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communication at Millikin University and Illinois State University, respectively.

Moran is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals East Central Illinois Chapter. She serves on the board of directors for the Decatur Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Decatur Rotary Club No. 180 and Macon County Crime Stoppers. She also is board secretary for the latter two organizations.
