Their commitment to each other and to our community was inspiring.

Married almost 55 years, the late Robert and Bev Ketenbrink had called Decatur their home since 1959, the year they were married. Through their financial support, they regularly honored their commitments to their adopted community, their love of animals and Bob’s field in the metal building industry.

Although Bob died in 2014 and Bev in 2018, their legacy as a couple lives on through the funds they established during their lives, including the Bob and Bev Ketenbrink Community Assistance Fund. Since its founding in 2019, this fund has been instrumental in helping our community grapple with the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In their memory, the “Do Something Great” Award for outstanding community commitment was renamed the Robert and Bev Ketenbrink Community Commitment Award. This award is presented each year to an individual, a couple or a family with a record of exceptional generosity, demonstrated outstanding civic or charitable responsibility, and leadership that has encouraged and motivated others toward roles in philanthropy – all qualities this devoted couple demonstrated throughout their lives.
