I feel it’s my role as a community ambassador to establish connections with nonprofit agencies and maintain them through participation and volunteerism. Being active in our community means more to me than joining a board – to me it means taking a personal interest in the message of the organization and passionately sharing it with others. I try to use the knowledge I’ve gained of local nonprofit agencies to help link them with the people and resources available. This is what made volunteering as a board member for the Community Foundation so appealing – it provides an means of sustaining those connections and an outlet for advocating for and sharing information about our local nonprofits with others. As a life-long resident of Macon County, I love finding out how small the world really is – how so many people are connected and affected by the same issues. When that happens, people seem to come together to advance the issues they care about and bring lasting change for our community. Since our sons have made their homes here as well, I love seeing their generation wanting to stay in Macon County because of many the family oriented communities our area includes.
