YLIA Awards $5,000 in Youth Mental Health Grants

March 30, 2023 – Four local nonprofit organizations have been selected to receive a total of $5,000 in grants from the YLIA Youth Impact fund through partners at The Community Foundation of Macon County. This year’s grants are targeted to impact the mental health of local students.

“I am super excited about the organizations that we picked to fund this year! They all have amazing projects and I am so honored that our organization is able to contribute to such powerful projects.” says Drew Petitt, Chair of the 2023 Grant Team. The grant team as a whole is so excited to share the well deserved recipients of this years grant!

“This year we had an opportunity to see just how many great organizations recognize that the mental health of our young people is a crisis that impacts how our kids show up and perform in schools,” says Temethia Joyner, YLIA Program Facilitator, “The YLIA grant team chose proposed projects that left them impressed by the organizations’ creative ways to address self-esteem, self regulation, personal hygiene, and nutrition. We cannot wait to see the impact that these small but mighty projects have on our community and are so grateful to have the opportunity to support such transformational work.”

Below, is a list of this year’s grant recipients:

Franklin Grove Elementary – “Emotionally Calming Classroom” $1,050

STARR (School of Therapeutic and Recreational Riding) – “Helping Cowboys and Cowgirls” $805

American Dreamer STEM Academy – “8 Weeks of Wellness” $1,830

Eisenhower High School – “Essential Needs Stations” $1,300

Young Leaders In Action is a youth-led initiative of Macon County high school students wanting to make a positive difference in their community. The group is sponsored by The Community Foundation of Macon County and Rotary Club No. 180 of Decatur.
