Wishes Come True for Thirteen Area Nonprofits
Grants awarded in celebration of National Philanthropy Day and National National Community Foundation Week
Wishes are coming true this week throughout the Decatur area as a total of more than $13,300 in grants is awarded to 13 local nonprofit organizations to fund items on their wish lists of needs.
The wishes are being granted today through generous donations to The Community Foundation of Macon County (CFMC) and are made in celebration of National Philanthropy Day, Nov. 15, and National Community Foundation Week, Nov. 15-19. Wishes are listed on the Foundation’s online Community Wish List, which features nearly 70 items needed by nonprofits belonging to the Macon County Legacy group: https://www.heartofillinois.org/community-wish-list. Items range in cost from $10 to $140,000; most requests cost under $1,000 each.
“The Community Wish List is a wonderful mechanism for making sure that nonprofits have a chance to voice what they need to operate,” says CFMC President Natalie Beck. “And for donors, granting wishes is a simple way to direct year-end giving for the betterment of our community. I’d also add that making a wish come true in the name of another individual is also a great holiday gift for that hard-to-buy-for person in your life.”

National Community Foundation Week was created in 1989 by former president George H.W. Bush to recognize the work of community foundations throughout America and their collaborative approach to working with the public, private and nonprofit sectors to address community problems. These independent, public entities steward funds from institutional and individual donors to support local nonprofits. Community foundations are one of the fastest-growing forms of philanthropy.
The Community Foundation of Macon County is one of more than 750 U.S. community foundations. Established in 2000, CFMC stewards more than 365 funds and total assets of $50 million. To date, CFMC has distributed over $36 million to charitable organizations and endeavors.
