Two Options for Training Course in Effective Board Membership Offered in This Fall

Central Illinois residents interested in making a difference in their communities through board leadership are invited to enroll in one of two “Introduction to Board Governance” courses held this fall.

“If you live in Central Illinois and want to help make our community a better place – plus develop your professional leadership skills – this course will help you achieve those goals,” says Natalie Beck, president and CEO of The Community Foundation of Macon County, which helps facilitate the course sessions.

Led by Bruce Nims, a Decatur businessman and active community leader with extensive experience in board development, business ownership and training, the course helps participants develop skills in:

  • community leadership, including being an effective and prepared member board member;
  • setting and guiding the direction of local organizations; and
  • evaluating how well those organizations serve our community.

Participants also develop skills in teamwork, leadership, consensus-building, financial literacy, legal matters and more professional tools. In addition, individuals who successfully complete the course will be connected with local organizations that may be in need of volunteer board members.

Participants may choose from their choice of one of two different courses offered. Participants are expected to attend all three sessions in the course they select.

Masks are required for all sessions. Class size limited to 12 participants. Each participant has own table. Cost per person for an entire course is $30.
