Community Foundation Awards $63,790 in CommunityWorks Funding to Support Workforce Investment Solutions Programs

Macon County – The Community Foundation of Macon County (CFMC) announces $63,790 in funding to support Workforce Investment Solutions (WIS) programs. This funding comes from the CommunityWorks Endowment Fund established at the CFMC. This year, the CommunityWorks Endowment Fund provided support in the areas of workforce development and education.

“Workforce is grateful for the support of The Community Foundation of Macon County,” says Rocki Wilkerson, Executive Director of Workforce Investment Solutions. “This partnership will assist Workforce Investment Solutions with aligning services to all residents and add funding for more participants to assist in meeting the urgent labor market needs for employers.”

Funding will support several WIS programs including:

  • DPS senior pilot: 40 DPS seniors to have the opportunity to attend employment workshops, career assessment, resume building and creation of an employment portfolio.
  • Childcare educational bridge program: An 8-week childcare program focused on getting more qualified teachers into daycares.
  • Childcare certification program: Scholarships for students pursuing childcare certifications.
  • DPS trades program: A partnership between WIS, DPS, Decatur Habitat for Humanity, and the City of Decatur for DPS students in the trades program to rehab vacant homes in Decatur for local Habitat families and earn a wage while still in high school.

In 2005, The Community Foundation of Macon County was one of 18 initial community foundations selected to participate in the Illinois Communityworks Endowment program. The CFMC raised local dollars, which were matched by the Grand Victoria Foundation, to create an endowment benefitting Macon County.
